Jeffrey Mishlove, Ph.D.

Jeffrey is author of three books. The Roots of Consciousness: Psychic Exploration Through History, Science and Experience was originally published in 1975. It has been widely used as a college text for courses in consciousness exploration. A revised edition was published in 1993. His second book, Psi Development Systems, is an evaluation of ancient and modern methods for training extrasensory abilities. His third book, Thinking Allowed, is a collection of interviews from his television series. Since 1988, Jeffrey's weekly television series, Thinking Allowed, has been shown on public television stations throughout the United States. During this period he has conducted over two-hundred interviews with leading figures in psychology, philosophy, science, health and spirituality.

Jeffrey holds a unique doctoral diploma in "Parapsychology" from the University of California at Berkeley. Awarded in 1980, it remains the only doctoral diploma in parapsychology ever awarded by an accredited, American university. He is also a licensed clinical psychologist. KG: Tonight we have a special guest, Jeffrey Mishlove, Ph.D., of the Intuition Network and host of the television program, "Thinking Allowed." Welcome Jeffrey!!

JM: Thank you.

KG: I'll start with some opening questions. Jeffrey, tell us how you became involved with the world of intuition and psi. Have you always been interested? Or did something happen that put you in a special place?

JM: A little of both. I've been fascinated by the paranormal ever since I was a child. But, then, at about the age of 21 (some 28 years ago), I began having a series of precognitive dreams that really started pushing my boundaries and causing me to ask questions.

KG: How did you get started with the Intuition Network?

JM: The Intuition Network was founded by Professor Westin Agor, at the University of Texas at El Paso. He is the author of several books on the use of intuition (including psychic intuition) in business. I interviewed him on one occasion for my television program -- Thinking Allowed. When he decided to step down from his position, he asked me if I would accept the directorship. It seemed like an excellent fit for me. So, I accepted.

KG: What exactly is the purpose of the Intuition Network?

JM: Simple ... to help create a world in which people everywhere feel supported and encouraged to use their inner resources to tap into the wisdom of their own souls.

KG: Ah, I LOVE that! Have you ever gone to classes to increase your psychic skills?

JM: Yes. I've studied a wide variety of approaches. In fact, my doctoral dissertation (for my PhD in parapsychology at Berkeley) was based on these explorations. It was published as a book called PSI DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS. I've studied yoga, meditation, psychodrama, remote viewing, and many others.

KG: Great! And speaking of remote viewing can you tell us a little about your latest projects?

JM: Right now, the Intuition Network is engaged in a research program in remote viewing called Project PARView. It stands for Precognitive Associative Remote VIEWING. We are looking for talented viewers.

JM: In Project PARView, we are exploring the possibilities of remote viewing for predicting future events with great accuracy and precision.

KG: Jeffrey, you said earlier that you were screening for talented viewers. What do you classify as 'talent'?

JM: Perhaps if any are interested in engaging in some serious research, they can contact me at my e-mail address at the Intuition Network. That is: jeffrey@williamjames.com. A talented remote viewer can, with some regularity, describe remote locations and events with great clarity -- as if they were right there! We use simple pictures or postcards for testing purposes.

KG: I have a question specifically about the process you went through getting a Ph.D in parapsychology at Berkeley. What was the approval process like and were yo supported at the committee levels?

JM: I was a graduate student at Berkeley for ten years, from 1970 to 1980. I also did receive a criminology masters degree. Then I set up an individual, interdisciplinary doctoral major in parapsychology. It was the only such degree in parapsychology ever awarded by an accredited, American university. The process was extremely difficult. Many obstacles were thrown in my path. Such a path is only recommended for people with unusual motivation.

KG: There is a small group of us that seems to have trouble sometimes distinguishing telepathy from true remote viewing. Would you please comment on this?

JM: I really see no need to make a distinction between telepathy and "true" remote viewing. I suspect that our abilities are all based on the fundamental oneness of all reality. The mind can access anything whatsoever. The art is one of cultivating mental focus.

KG: Jeffrey, why do you want to research remote viewing, especially the precognitive kind? What benefits can you hope to attain?

JM: We live in a time when there are many needs on the planet. Conventional approaches have been unable to address the problems of war, pollution, overpopulation and inhumanity. I am hopeful that by processes of consciousness raising we can begin to change the world. Remote viewing represents, to me, a concrete effort in that direction.

KG: What other projects are you and/or The Intuition Network involved in?

JM: We operate a computer conference system. There are many discussion groups that you can access through your e-mail. If you send me e-mail at the Intuition Network, you will get some information back from me about it.

KG: The Intuition Network and it's Internet Homepage URL is http://www.intuition.org.

JM: We also are engaged in a variety of other activities, such as television production, conferences, tours, and cruises.

KG: Can anyone join The Intuition Network as a member and/or attend the conferences?

JM: We currently have no formal membership. Everyone is welcome to join our mailing list to become informed about our activities.

KG:  By the way, The Intution Network has a great Internet Listserv system where you can subscribe to an array of intuition topics and receive the messages via email. Check out the HomePage to get further information.  Jeffrey, if someone wanted to increase their remote viewing skills, how could they do that?

JM: It seems to me as if we are all born with excellent remote viewing skills. So, there is nothing there to increase. What we need to do is to decrease the little tricks we play in our minds that block and interfere with remote viewing.

KG: Yes, that chatter does not serve us when we're working with our intuition. Jeffrey, what about public credibility for the work you do. Are you now becoming a "valued" Berkley almunus? Or is this still "fringe"?

JM: Intuition is becoming more and more mainstream. Berkeley still has not awarded another doctoral degree in parapsychology. So there is a lot of work that yet remains. But how many Berkeley graduates have had their own national, public television programs out every week for the last ten years?

KG: True <smile>

JM: I guess all of this suggests that the public interest in intuition and psychic functioning is outstripping the interest of our large institutions -- academia, business and religion.

KG: Could you elaborate on reducing the blocks to remote viewing?

JM: This is simple, really. Practice relaxation exercises. Meditation, yoga. Quieting the mind. Also, I think working on one's emotional well-being and self-esteem reduces mental chatter.

KG: Yes, finding one's own center helps you to realize that the chatter is the mind's way of being "alive".  How does one specifically work on remote viewing as opposed to say precognition?

JM: It is all a matter of intention. Consciousness seems to be goal directed. Neither time nor space are really obstacles. So, it just depends on how you set up your exercises. Are you looking at a "target" that exists in real time or in the future?

KG: Jeffrey, how can folks find out if your television program is playing in their area or via their cable system?

JM: The best way would be for them to contact their local PBS stations and ask for THINKING ALLOWED. It is a weekly, half hour interview program. If people would like to order a list of videotapes (over 200 are available) they can call 800-999-4415.

KG: I have some of the transcripts from the shows and they're excellent. Incidentally, some people are doing remote viewing exercises via email, because the computer keeps track of the time of the email being sent. The online world is an interesting place for ESP and other such experiments. It's very much outside of space-time constraints. Jeffrey, I see we're out of time and I'd like to thank you for being here with us tonight.

JM: It's been a real pleasure, Karyn. You have a wonderful way of playfully using ESP online with the group. I wish you great success, and hope to experience some of your online classes at the intuition network's computer conference system. Bye.

KG: Good Night!
